I think it's unnecessary. Look at how many storefronts in Wakefield sit empty. Grocery stores couldn't even survive there. And yet developers still feel the need to build shiny new shopping centers on every corner. I don't even live in that corridor, and I oppose it! I don't think people need a grocery store every 1/4 mile! It will only make bad traffic worse! What's wrong with having residential only corridors along these roads? You drive back down FoN Rd about 1-2 miles and there are plenty of shopping options, and plenty of retail zones. Retail does NOT have to follow residential along every block! I applaud those who want to keep it away!

But didn't that Kroger close its doors right in the middle of the Falls of Neuse widening project? Seems like they judged the performance of the store prematurely, IMO. People in Falls River/Bedford and the neighborhoods around there used to rarely go to the Wakefield area because Falls was such a mess, and that has all changed a lot in the last year or so. I used to never go to that Kroger because I wasn't about to go up Falls or US1. Now I wish it were still there

I don't see any other businesses there closing down, they all seem bustling from what I can tell. Most of the other grocery stores south of that area are too crowded for productive shopping during typical shopping hours.

If they do go ahead with Publix at Dunn Rd., it's going to be a busy store, no question about it. Not that this is necessarily a good thing, because traffic in that area flows nicely currently and I suspect that would change.

On the other hand, shoppers tend to flock to new grocery stores like giddy toddlers children to the living room on Christmas morning, so maybe it will draw some of the crowd away from other stores like HT at Falls Point.

Well guess what? I googled it, and there is one in the Bronx! Guess I lived on the wrong side of the tracks.
