Hello! I accepted a position at UNC hospital in Chapel Hill. My husband works in Raleigh. Right now, we are both commuting from near Fort Bragg. When our lease is up we are going to move closer to where we work. We would like to have an equal distance to our jobs, and I'm not sure what area to look in. Our budget for a rental is $1200/month. We are in our 20s, and have 3 children, 10, 7, and 2. Looking for family friendly neighborhoods, with a park/pool nearby. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

I guess it would help to know where in Raleigh your husband works. Do you mean downtown Raleigh? Southeast Raleigh? Northwest Raleigh? Big difference.

It's a new job, and I don't know the actual address, but the location is described as, "near the split of interstates 40, and 440." Does that help?

That actually could describe two different locations.

440 is a loop off 40 that goes around the north side of the city and rejoins, with splits at the west (Cary) side of Raleigh, and at the east (Garner) side of Raleigh.

Is there any other landmark mentioned?

The company is called Granite Construction. I tried searching the Raleigh location address to no avail. I believe it is closer to Cary. I remember my husband telling me he gets off at the Cary exit, when we passed through on our way to RDU.

Yeah. It's on the Cary side of town.

Granite Construction RALEIGH, North Carolina -- Located near the split between Interstates 40 and 440, Granite's aggregate plant will supply up to 350 tons of asphalt per hour during NCDOT's "Fortify I-40/440 Rebuild" project. The three-year project, which requires rebuilding 11.5 miles on the southern section of I-40/440, is part of a 10-year plan to alleviate congestion and improve mobility in the Triangle.

Still doesn't specify whether the plant is near the SE intersection of 40/440, or the SW intersection of 40/440, though I'll guess SW based on the OP's mention of Cary exit.

EDIT: found this mention on WRAL

Looks like he will be working on Fortify, the rebuild of I-40 along the south of Raleigh.

You probably want to be somewhere between W Cary and S Durham.

4 bedrooms? Your rent budget will be tight.

Morrisville or SW Durham would be a pretty good midpoint between Chapel Hill and where you seem to describe the other job.

Our budget has some wiggle room. Our new jobs give us a $2200/month increase. 3 bedrooms will suffice. Our youngest is still a co-sleeper. I've heard SW Durham is the better part of Durham, so I will try there, and Morrisville as well. Thanks much, everyone!
