Today I took a few pictures near the intersection of Oberlin Road and Craig Street (see map below). Is this area considered a part of the Cameron Village area? What exactly are the boundaries of Cameron Village?

Map Showing Location Pictures were taken (Is this considered part of the Cameron Village area?)

I wouldn't consider anything North of Wade Ave to be part of the Cameron Village neighborhood. That said, it doesn't mean that one can't walk to Cameron Village if one chooses from that location. It's just that, in the city, the neighborhoods are much smaller and specific. For instance, I'd consider the homes between Cameron Village and Wade Ave. to be in "Cameron Village" while those between Cameron Village and Hillsborough St. to be in "Cameron Park".
I'd cosider the area you *****y to be the Western edge of the greater Hayes Barton neighborhood, though this particular location is more like the "poor man's" Hayes Barton (as if there were really such a thing). I don't think these streets were originally developed at the same time as the main part of Hayes Barton and I think it's obvious when you traverse the neighborhood. It looks a few decades younger. I used to live in this location in one of the many duplexes that actually look like single family houses. That's another reason why I am suspect of their actual "Hayes Barton" designation. Some of your photos look like they are on St. Mary's Street. Those homes are more standard Hayes Barton.

The *****y in my previous post was meant to be the word "query". Apparently, my misspelling, adding an extra "e" in the word, made it offensive to print. What is up with that? I don't find that word, with or without the "y" on the end offensive. In fact, I find it offensive that someone would find that word offensive! Okay...I am done with my rant. :-)

Default pics

Nice pics of the Saint Mary's Road/Hayes Barton area. Hayes Barton is bounded by Fairview Rd, Oberlin Rd, Glenwood and Williamson. Cameron Village is bounded by Wade, St Mary's, Peace and Oberlin. Realtors tend to extend these boundries. We live in Five Points and would never say we live in Hayes Barton although Realtors blur the lines everyday. It only makes them look super cheesy.

Thumbs up Thanks!

rnc2mbfl and uncletulepo,

Thanks for setting me straight on where I was when I took these pictures. I had a feeling that once I crossed Wade Avenue I had left the Cameron Village "Area" but I wasn't sure. And yes, some of the above pictures were taken on St Mary's Street.

I really loved how several of the houses in this area had detached garages. Very cool!

C-h-a-r-m-i-n-g homes, NRG. I think you have posted one of my friends' parents' home on St. Mary's. She is constantly talking about how the Raleigh natives -- like her family -- are amazed at the prices their homes command. The whole area over there is just beautiful. My husband and I want to know who lives in that HUGE house on Oberlin -- with the stone wall running around it? It looks like it commands a city block, almost. Stunning estate.

If you are super interested in figuring out who lives there and had some time, you can search the Wake County property tax web pages. Start by using Google maps or Zillow.com to identify the address via satellite imagery. Then, you can Google Wake County Property Taxes and enter the address fo find out who owns it. Often times, on properties that large and expensive, they are owned by trusts or some corporate entity in order to protect the identity of the owners. I can't say that I blame them!

I think hubby knows how to do that zillow and/or google search stuff. We have just seen it twice, at night, and wondered who lived in that beautiful place? The house sits back off the road, and lit at night, looks almost like a ship! The yard curves around, and is separated by a low stone wall close to the sidewalk. I think I recall some lovely gates at the drive.
