We live in the adjacent Oxxford Hunt. We love the trees, wildlife, and being able to easily walk into Bond Park. It's a safe, friendly neighborhood with a central Cary location.

If you are looking in Trappers Run, you are at a price range at which you will see polybutylene. It is not great, but no reason to panic. Many thousands of homes in the region have it.

They were built in an era with a lot of experimental materials in use that did not stand the test of time, such as hardboard siding and polybutylene plumbing. Cary was growing at a very fast rate in the late 80's and early 90's, and a few building inspectors for the town were on the take, leading to some prison time IIRC. This led to "oversights" on construction quality.

I also see more foundation issues in that part of Cary than all other parts of Cary combined, much of it having to do with what Mike mentioned, wet crawlspaces, combined with expansive clay soils that react significantly with excess or lack of moisture.

I am certainly not saying to avoid the area as enough time has passed that many of the issues have been now remedied, but these are problems that can cost a lot of money to fix if they have not already been addressed. With that said, houses built between the late 70's and mid 90's share many of these inherent issues regardless of where they are in the triangle. I would rather inspect a house from the 1940's than a house from the 1980's in regards to report writing lol.

Your agent can easily identify it when they look under a house for polybutylene piping and a vapor barrier.

Off Cary Parkway near Evans Road.

Their HOA page I just found has a good map link if you click it and you can see all the "Silver" neighborhoods clustered there.
