Honestly? You didn't know these were not weeds? Please, find yourself a basic, garden book.....consult it.

What a shame - kinda confused why you'd ask what they were AFTER you'd already sprayed them.

I'm no master gardener, but I'm supposing the "dead flowering plants" you found when you moved in 2 months ago were otherwise lovely plants simply dormant because it was the middle of winter.

Hope they pull through!

It surprises me how little people know about the things growing around them. I got into an argument with the girlfriend b/c she told me dogwoods were blooming 3 weeks ago. It was definitely a cherry tree

none of these were weeds and should never have been mistaken for weeds.

I don't even know what to say here. You ask and before you get an answer you kill the plants in your yard? I mean I'm no gardener, but the patterned layout and location in those pictures would alone indicate that they weren't weeds.

Oh well. Treat this as a life lesson I suppose.

Useful rule of thumb:

When you move to a new property always wait a full year before messing with any flower beds or shrub borders. Don't spray chemicals, don't fertilize, don't dig. This is especially relevant the further north you live or the more likely you are to have true 'seasons'. Ornamental plants emerge at all different times of the year.

Yeah. That was my impression at first glance.

"It did have some dead flowering plants when we moved it 2 months ago"

Two months ago was January...what looks dead in January is probably just dormant.

It's no crime to not be knowledgeable about a topic. But it just makes sense to make an effort to educate yourself before doing something as drastic as applying an herbicide.

Crabgrass herbicide will probably have no effect on her plants, mainly because it works on the germination of small seeds in the soil. Hopefully the perennials in the photo will not be affected.
