I believe Fat Daddy's in Raleigh and Fayetteville are operated by Brad Hurley and John Vick (who also own 42nd Street Oyster House).

I also see on various places that the last night it will be open in March 30, 2014.

We've never been, and I guess we never will try it now.

I bet it's been over 20 since I have.

I did love it when I was a teenager, though.

I have to admit that when I lived in north Raleigh I went by that place all the time, and never had a clue what kind of place it was, and never went there.

Went to Fat Daddy's for lunch today and it was PACKED! The manager said he was shocked at the news of the closing and the date is 3/30/2014. Get your fix in while you can.

So the word is that they are tearing it down to put in a Panera. How lovely. Get rid of a family owned restaurant serving food that isn't frozen and heated up in a microwave, and replace it with a generic corporate owned chain serving average but overpriced food. Sad to say it will probably thrive on Glenwood.

That makes the news even more saddening.

Sounds like the owners cashed out on the real estate value of the lot.

The only reason I had been there in the past 10 years is because we lived in the neighborhood right behind it around 12 years ago (Oak Park) and the kids from the swim team would go there after every swim meet. Otherwise it probably would have been 20+ years for me too.

It was such a novelty back then. Was it still good when you last went?
