Does anyone know a place in the RTP area that is offering a low-cost or free eye exam? maybe something for a first time patient or new patient? I'm on SSDI and they don't offer eye care, but in order to get glasses I need an eye exam first. I live in Chapel Hill but can go wherever to get an exam. Thanks!

Ken

I believe Dr. Mauro at Costco Durham starts her exams at $60 and might do a discount for SSDI. She's also an excellent optometrist.

I used America's Best for almost 10 years when I lived in Maryland. I always had great service and they have nice glasses for the price (which surprised me at first). They offer an eye exam + two pairs of glasses for $69. If your needs are pretty basic, it's a great deal.

The Walmart ones are independent optometrists that rent the space from my experience. All of them that I have encountered when I used the ones in Walmarts charged between $100 - $120.

Walmart has free eye exam days. Just call them and ask when they are. Ours offered one last week.

I actually ended up at America's Best and got a free eye exam and two pair of nice glasses all for $250.00. All things considered, more than fair. Thanks everyone!
