I have a small townhouse backyard (19' x 19') in desperate need of either a landscape designer and/or architect. Fifty percent of the space is a concrete patio, which I hate. I would like to eliminate either all or part of the patio and replace it with pavers and/or stone. Can anybody recommend a good designer and/or architect that might have experience in dealing with smaller spaces? I live in the mid-town area of North Raleigh. Thanks.

Logan's Landscape Services did a really nice design-and-installation for a close friend.

you've probably already found out, but you didn't mention it - I hope you're allowed under your HOA rules & regs.

Oh, nice, BoBromhal! Go ahead and throw THAT wrench into the works! (just kidding--that's ALWAYS the best place to start before doing anything).

Because the backyard is fenced in with a privacy fence, I'm free to make whatever changes I want within the space. The only restriction I'm under is the design of the privacy fence, which needs to be replaced. I'm hoping to also have that done as part of this project. Ideally, the will fence come down, concrete removed, the yard leveled/graded, etc., new stonework/landscaping installed, and then the fence replaced. Fortunately, I have an end unit so my backyard is easily accessible.

It sounds like you are wanting a design for a small "get-away" which would be nice to consider more elaborate plants due to the fact that you won't have that many so the cost & overall maintenance will be manageable. The "hardscape" area could actually be a crushed stone? This would soften the feel of your small "get-away".

Just a thought.
