Whatever happens, the Historic Development Commission should be the ones to pay for it!

I'm sure the taxpayers will ultimately foot the bill of any lawsuit that comes to pass due to this. I for one would not go down without a fight if I was well into my home build after getting all proper permits and approvals only to be shutdown by a group of whiny neighbors.

It was also built on an empty lot. Why are the homes built between the 1880's to 1910's anything special. In European countries those are called "New neighborhoods". They also went through all the correct procedures and obtained all applicable permits. I don't see how they can be made to suffer here without the HOA or City fitting the bill for all of their expenses.

What a shame!

What I don't understand is all the resistance against this "modern" home. Modern in what decade? The 70s to current are defined more or less by boxy tract homes IMO. Whether they be covered in stucco, vinyl or brick, neighborhoods today are mostly comprised of very similar looking homes no matter how many elevation A, B, C options a builder may offer up. This "modern" home looks more like a Frank Lloyd Wright home than a home defining current building trends.

Shame on this real estate agent for doing this to this couple. Shame on the city for allowing this to happen. The city needed to do their due diligence prior to issuing a building permit to this couple. To say they gave them "warnings" or "build at your own risk" advisories after issuing their permit is asinine.

Interesting, but not surprising, that some of comments in the article below about the Oakwood situation are more reasoned than the actual article ...
