I had a portion of a Bradford pear tree collapse last night. I've since cut the portion that fell into bits and set them by the road, but will Durham pick them up? I'm not sure if that's a service or not (I'm within the city limits). I do not have one of those brown carts for yard waste pickup. Can I schedule a one-time pickup?

If not, are there private services that will come and haul away this waste?

I'm betting you can, given the situation. The city will let you know if you call them.

That was really something. I live very close to the area of most damage but fortunately only lost power until 4 a.m. and internet until an hour ago.

You can contact One Call to see what your options are. I believe if they declare a disaster then the state will pick up the debris. The worst case would be you'd have to sign up for a year of yard waste service, which is 6.50/month. You get the weekly brown cart service plus 2 bulk collections per year.
