I saw the big thread about Publix coming to NC and how excited many of you are about it so I wanted to pass on some information.

If you would like to see Publix come to North Raleigh please come and show your support at the meeting being held this Thursday, June 5 2014 at Durant Road Middle School.

It will be at 7:00PM in the auditorium. If you reside within the North CAC region, anyone 18 years or older (and it's not one vote per household) can vote on whether or not they support the rezoning case that would help bring Publix to this location.

This thread is not a debate on whether or not it should be built here. It is intended to just be informational so that you have the opportunity to go and vote as you see fit.

When was this procedure introduced. Households voting whether or not they want a new business approved?

Just to clarify......the vote will not determine whether or not it actually goes through. This is a process where the community is allowed to voice their opinion and the results are forwarded to the City Council where they will take it under consideration. And I should be clear that this is a North CAC meeting so really only votes from people that reside within this district/region should be voting however the meeting is open to anyone.

If you need more information on what the CAC is and what they do you can follow the link below.

This is simply a "Citizens Advisory Council" (CAC) meeting. The City of Raleigh established 19 CAC's throughout the jurisdiction representing different geographic parts of the city.

The CACs are simply advisory boards that report citizen concerns and opinion to the City Council. While public participation is always a welcome part of the process the votes of CACs are not binding and are simply used as an additional piece of info when the City Council considers things like rezoning requests etc.
