Always interesting to read, although many of the categories seem much more like a popularity/familiarity contest than a true "best of."

With such a small, limited read base, I never put much reliance into their polls. I also don't live in downtown Raleigh or Chapel Hill!

I use it as a good guide to check things out further. I'm pretty sure that the "ballot box" gets "stuffed" a bit. Good starting point, though.

The value of a list such as this isn't in truly separating good from bad, but rather to have as a punch list of places to consider where/when applicable.

At least now when someone asks for a good local German restaurant recommendation I at least have a clue where to look.

I noticed that too - and a few other chains voted best in their category. I think most people know the big national chains - it would be more interesting to see what are the best options among local businesses.

Let's not overlook that Gigi's got best cupcakes. yikes! There are some good ones mixed in like IP III and Lilly's. And my favorite vet won so it's not all bad.
