I was wondering if someone could tell me what the commute is like from cary to UNC hospital in the morning and vice versa in the evening. I found a great apartment in cary but I heard there can be a lot of traffic during rush hour. obviously I am not from this area and I don't know what to expect.
1) Where in Cary?
2) What lot will they have you parking in?
West Cary and parking in the lot across from the hospital, and maybe you are looking at 30 minutes. Other side of Cary and parking in a remote lot and having to take a bus to the hospital and well over an hour.
If you live in west Cary you can take back roads. Couple people I know work at UNC and they don't take 40. Also work with a woman who lives on the far side of Chapel Hill and commutes to our job in west Cary; she doesn't take 40 either.
If you know you'll be working at UNC Hospital, I'd look either in Chapel Hill or Durham before Cary just because that commute is going to get old. Some place around Southpoint in Durham would be fairly quick to UNC Hospital. Some place in Chapel Hill would be quicker. The 54 Bypass can get slow at rush hour, so you might look at alternate routes. Park-n-ride is not a bad option at all.
I was looking at bradford apartments on Bradford Green Sq in Cary. I really like those apartments because it seems really safe. I need to be in UNC by 7am so I guess I would start driving around 615? Then coming back home around 5 pm.
I was looking at apartments in durham as well. I really liked Philips research park but I am worried about safety and break ins. I heard the crime rate is higher in durham

Do you know what lot you'd be parking in and how long to expect it to take from that lot to get to your job? I suspect you won't be able to park close and will have to do some sort of park and ride, so you'd need to budget time to wait for a bus, etc.

When are you moving? The Bradford isn't done yet.
Have to agree with the others. Unless there is a compelling reason to live there (ie a spouse/partner/roommate that commutes the other direction) I would choose to live much closer to work. There are plenty of safe places to live around there.
It depends where in Cary. I live in west Cary, and it takes me about 25 to 30 minutes to UNC hospital door to door. There's not much traffic if you take 751.
If you're not worried about the school district, the South Point area would be an excellent place to live and commute to UNC.
