Are we really sure it was a bear in Five Points, or could it have been someone with that new frizzy, grizzly Adams looking beard thing going on Now that's scary!
C'mon y'all, we need to scare the newbies some more . Not only those snakes and spiders and roaches you need to look out for, but the occasional bear might stroll through your neighborhood, too.
I think the newbies scared the bear away, not the other way round.. There used to be alot more.
My son and I saw a coyote cross Timber Drive in Garner near the Home Depot a few days ago. I was taking him to school about 7:30 in the morning and it ran across the street coming from the Garner High direction and was heading north. Lived in Garner for 20 years and have never seen a coyote here before.
We did have a bear near Vandora Springs Elementary in Garner about 4 years ago. Police just followed it all day as it lumbered it's way across town. Posing no real threat and just curious. Eventually it headed out towards 10-10 direction I guess.

You think it was one of those Duck Dynasty folks?!!
I'm curious why we didn't hear of more sightings. If the bear was passing through, there would have been a LOT more sightings, and in rush hour traffic a few hours after he was seen, he could have caused some issues along the roadways too.
I'm now beginning to think there was no bear. They don't simply disappear....in the city.
Every couple years there are bear sightings here and I'm actually shocked there aren't more. But the bears mostly mind their business as do most woodland creatures. In the last decade I remember bear sightings in garner twice, leesville road, lynn road, North east raleigh, and now 5 points. They are harmless. just don't go trying to pet one of them. Now those intrusive spiders are something to be afraid of!
I just find it highly unusual of a large animal like this being able to cross I-440. That is a minefield for an animal like that. So I wonder how long it has been an ITB resident.
