You will fit in just fine. There is a good mix of different races in this area.

My 8yr old son was introduced to racism for the first time today. A little 4/5 yr black child came up to him and called him a "stupid white boy". This was after the same child tried to maul my son's friend at a local kid's park. The kid literally had his hand in the boys mouth trying to pull his jaw apart. Fortunately, I was close enough to pull him off, before he could cause serious damage. The mother then tried to start some crap with my wife for reporting the issues to the workers at the park.

Unfortunately, racism is alive and well in the triangle area.

Thank you for reminding us that not everyone in our community is as racially sensitive as they should be.

racism is alive and well everywhere...doesn't make it a common occurrence or a daily norm.

Generally speaking the more education people have the less racism you will find. Remember we have some very big and important institutions of higher education which attract lots of diverse races, backgrounds, etc not only as students but of course professors. That's not to say you won't find a backward idiot who spouts off, especially when drunk but it doesn't happen very much.

I have minority children and nobody looks at our family sideways like they did in Georgia. They have no problems at school either. Yesterday we had a BDay party at the pool and had 3 Asian children, one black kid, one hispanic and 2 whites. Ho hum...nothing unusual about that party at all.
