What makes these birds worse is that they are extremely loud and they don't shut up ALL day and many nights. I can deal with loud birds who do their singing and move on. But it is intolerable all day every day and losing sleep at night is just ruining my quality of life
I'm beginning to think you're just pulling our leg
We had one right outside our window and with a newborn I had to do something. Super Soaker, problem solved.
Good for you!! I have read that many people took care of their mockingbird problems this way. Unfortunately, that is not an option for us because we live in an apartment complex and the birds mostly hang out on rooftops - 3 stories high. Don't think an airsoft hasn't crossed my mind!! laws, shmaws! It's just not a good quality of life if you can't sleep!
Islip. Granted, we rarely heard any planes after 10-11pm, but the air national guard is stationed there and we'd hear black hawks almost daily. Sometimes even military planes. Again - never bothered me 1 bit!
Reminds me when I moved to Eugene, OR. The train horns at night were driving me crazy. I called up a sound expert to tell me how to sound proof my house. I never call him after the first visit because I got used to the noise. Sometimes I would forget to wear my ear plugs. Still wasn't bothered after a while.
That bird is protecting a nest. The daddy birds make noise away from the nest to attract predators. I think it's sweet. I love my mockingbirds. Even at night.

I had a nest just outside my bedroom window. The bird would start at 12:15 am almost on the dot every night and go until about 4:00 am. I could not get any sleep. The trains I heard didn't bother me at all. Sirens didn't bother me. Hell I had lived in Manhattan. This was the freaking Ethel Merman of birds.
At first I didn't know what kind of bird it was but a co-worker filled me in.
Went home, googled it, saw a post by a guy who had the same problem. Took two nights of a high pressure hose and finally I could get some sleep.
I hate mocking birds.
