UNC needs a 5 year ban from sports.

It was rotten to the core using athletes as meat and cheating some of them out of an education to help after their sports career ends.

This university needs to be slapped hard and the department supporting no-show classes must be eliminated. A waste of money that a state school needs to end.

And now Mary Willingham has filed suit against the University:

Quote:
Mary Willingham, the former UNC-Chapel Hill reading specialist who contends the university valued player eligibility more than academic integrity, has sued her former employer.

In a lawsuit filed in Wake County Superior Court late Monday, Willingham claims she was demoted and reassigned after speaking out about athletes coming into college unequipped to do college-level work.

I wish Mary much success!
Death Sentence would be more appropriate for UNC-Chapel Hill athletics. The athletic department has absolutely tarnished a great university. Very sad but money talks!

We all knew that Mary's suit was coming. No surprise there.

I bet Bill Friday is rolling over in his grave. What a big fat mess those idiots have gotten themselves into. Heads will start rolling soon. I bet ole Roy is sweating bullets about now.

As an alumni, this is sad news indeed.

I hope you don't think this just happened at UNC Chapel Hill? This is a rampant issue in many NCAA schools, but UNC got caught. Think Duke, Wake Forest, or NC State doesn't provide preferential treatment to student-athletes in money maker NCAA sports that borderlines an unethical boundary? I think SI wrote a good article on this topic several months ago.

Still waiting for examples of other schools setting up a series of fake classes to keep star players eligible. UConn sat out the NCAA tourney a couple of years ago because of grades. Too bad they didn't have AFAM. Meanwhile when was the last time UNC had an academic casualty?

I miss Bill Friday and his wisdom and slow kind voice. He would be so embarrassed but I bet he knew this sort of thing has been going on for decades. This is not new here or anywhere else. UNC just ticked off the wrong person and got caught.
