Doing some rewiring of our 1920's home with plaster walls. We are searching for a contractor to do some patching of the walls from the electrical work. Do people have recommendations on whom to contact for repairing plaster walls?

Note that for some larger ceiling holes, we are thinking of instead of lath followed by classic 3 coat plaster, on cutting some blue board (a type of gypsum board) to the hole size and applying veneer plaster over the blue board to match the plaster. Anyone know of contractors who work with blue board and veneer plaster?

Thanks.

- Phil

Your best bet may be to contact the historic preservation nonprofit in your city (Preservation Durham in my town's case) or Preservation NC. They may know contractors with whom folks have had good experience. Preservation Durham also has contractors doing DIY training on how to fix an historic house; those contractors are good folks to get bids from. Think the contractors may be listed on the web site?

1920s house myself but one with a primitive form of drywall, or was drywalled maybe in the 40s....

I had friends that found it easier & cheaper to just go over everything with 1/4" sheetrock.

Oh my word - please don't do that unless you have extinguished all other options.

OP - I am sending you a list of plasterers who work in the area and have been recommended by other historic house homeowners.

I would agree if it was a historic house. The OP only noted it was build in the 20s.

Cameron Park IS a historic district, isn't it?

1/4" sheetrock will not offer the richness of plaster. I would consider it if the plaster was a disaster, but in an old house in a historic district, I might hold out for plaster.
