I also give it to my clients who need to re-paint.
Sometimes beige has a pink tone to it and once I had a client that re-painted his dining room a beige but when the sunlight came in the windows, it looked pink! Not a popular color!
So now, I recommend Kilim Beige!
Funny you mention this. We renovated our customer waiting area at my business a couple years ago and I picked a beige color from a book. After they put it on a wall and I saw it I was like "YIKES!" It was way too pink-ish for my liking and I thought they picked the wrong color or something. (They didn't.)
So I remembered my Dad's house had a nice color beige in it and sure enough it was Kilim Beige. We used that instead and it looks good.
To answer the original OP's question I don't see why painting neutral colors would be a bad thing. Something seems "off" to me here but just not sure what. Hard to tell without looking at the listing....

Sometimes the undertones clash with furniture or other things. It seems to happen a lot with tile and granite in bathrooms and kitchens. It's neutral, but just off in feeling.
Had a Broker Luncheon today in a new n'hood...house was priced at $575,000.
Beautifully decorated, very modern.
As with this builder and others, I am noticing many builders are going with a very light grey paint with white cabinets (not stark white but more of a glazed white) and lots of very light granite and very light tiled floors. They are leaning towards a medium dark hardwood or a very dark hardwood instead of a light hardwood.
I couldn't stand when people looking at our previous house would complain about the paint... we did not have your problem (never heard of a neutral color being a problem?) Our realtor actually told us if we wanted to get more attention, we should tone it down and go more neutral on the walls. You would think people would like a neutral color.

That does seem to be the trend now. When we were building our new home, we looked at a ton of samples for kitchen cabinet colors, hardwood, hardwood colors etc... and ended up going with an antique white cabinet and special dark walnut hardwood. Our design lady was telling us everyone is doing it now.
