Hi there! My mom is coming to visit and wants to take my four year old fishing. She has a problem with her foot and cannot climb or walk long distances. We go to Lynn Lake and Shelley lake to walk the dogs and child. I dont think either one of those places will work for her. We have yet to go to Falls Lake. Do any of you fish? We would like some recommendations.
Thanks

The only place that I can think of with limited walking, is Lake Umstead in Umstead Park. You can drive down to the secondary parking off of the gravel road. This puts you within a couple hundred feet of the water. Everywhere else, seems to have quite a hike to access water.

Look at this map:

http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/w...cs/parkmap.pdf

Look under "Big Lake" at the handicapped parking area marked on the map. That is the spot I was referring too. It's on "Group Camp Road".

Lake Crabtree County Park Boating & Fishing

Might be worth a look. But, you won't eat your catch.

I wouldn't eat my catch from any freshwater lakes around the Triangle. Especially in the summer. I don't care much for freshwater fish anyhow...and always throw back anything I catch around here.

I used to watch my friends father, many years ago, clean and cook about 2 dozen little sunfish, bream, etc. I was amazed at the work someone would go through to eat a bunch of little tiny fish! I don't think that man every threw back ANY fish he ever caught!

don't forget your fishing licenses, unless you're only using live bait.

Thanks guys. We went Umstead today for a little hike and to check out the spot. My mom is in Rehoboth beach DE at my uncles house fishing and crabbing. Hopefully she will bring back some fresh flounder. The only fish I like to eat. Today at Big Lake in Umstead some guys were carrying around some small fish they caught. Didnt look like good eating ones to me. We just want to take my son fishing, he is the only one with a pole. So, I will get a license for me since it states he doesnt need one but has to be with an adult with one.

Like Mike said...check out Lake Crabtree. There are some good spots to fish from the bank near the boat ramps. You can even fish from the pier next to the ramps.

You need a license in NC no matter what the bait. The ONLY exemption is for under the age of 16.

You USED to be able to fish with live bait, in your home county, without a license, but not any longer.

Went to Crabtree park yesterday. Some people were catching catfish. We didn't catch anything but my son got practice casting his fishing pole. We haven't been to Falls Lake yet. Is there any good easy accessible fishing there? I like fishing for bass.
