Desperate times call for desperate measures. My shedding monster of a dog and the seats in my Honda Fit do not mix well.
Tried car seat covers that trapped the hair just as much - still on the lookout for good ones - in the meantime I need to get the hair out...keep trying car vacuums at various car washes that don't really do the job as much as I'd like.
Anyone know of one with an AWESOME car vac? I will travel for this...
I bought a car vac but it's insanely loud and neighbor-disturbing.
If it is hair actually stuck in the fabric of the seats or carpet, I have found duct tape works really well. Just peel a foot long piece or whatever, lay it down, remove, repeat. Throw away and start with a new piece as needed. Like a lint roller on steroids.
I've cleaned car carpets by removing them, laying them on the driveway, and subjecting them to a thorough vacuuming. They look clean. Then I hit them with compressed air and generated a bodacious dust storm. Follow up with another vacuuming.

Ahhh yes, give the car the old "Ghetto Brazilian Wax Job" treatment.
I've also had good results with taking the mats out. I'll actuall BANG them on something to really beat the dust out.
Compressed air is a good req too (I didn't think of that), but wear eye safety glasses. Sounds silly, but it's easy to blow a chunk of dust up, so be safe.
Might also try "brushing" the upholstry before vacuming it? Anything to loosen the hair.
Got the same problem! The big long haired grand dog sheds some kind of awful. I blow mine out first with the model BG-55 Stihl hand held blower then hit the tough spots with a one of those sticky tape clothes rollers...duct tape works pretty good as already suggested. I'll get it back to new condition when he leaves in Sept. My Boston's are ready for his butt to leave too. Everybody is
I have decent luck just using towels on the seats to catch some of it. Also, have you tried to eliminate (some) of the hair with a furminator or similar? One of our is a professional shedder, so even the furminator doesn't get it all, but it does help.
Most powerful vacuum: the turbo vacuum at the car wash on hwy 55 in Durham. It's in the shopping center with Brig's and Food Lion. It actually costs a little more to switch it to the turbo setting ($1.50 vs $.75), but SOOOO worth it if you need a powerful vacuum. I have actually driven to Durham from Raleigh to use it!
I cover the seats with blankets/towels but they always get moved. I'm thinking of getting some microfiber fabric and making my own seat covers.
I covered the rear seat in my Tahoe with one of those cheap vellux blankets from Walmart. It sticks good to my cloth seats, and the fine dog hair sticks good to the blanket...which keeps all that fine dog hair from blowing around in the car.
Just today I read that you can use a shower squeegee to get the hair off of the fabric. It was in Reader's Digest...must be true! Worth a shot anyway. Googling around confirms some truth to it.
