It varies by class in middle school. Do you mean Language Arts, Math, Science, Art, Band, Theater, Computer Skills, Creative Writing, Spanish, etc? I don't have a middle schooler in CHCCS, but know several and would be glad to find out the info but not sure which class.

Poppydog two people mentioned that middle school class sizes at Davis Drive and Mill Park middle (both in Wake) are 30+ so I wanted to get an idea what the class sizes where at Chapel Hill. To be honest I would worry about mine in a class with over 30 kids, each for different reasons.

It's interesting to me that the class sizes at DDMS and MPMS are about the same size. In the latest report (the one I linked my first post), the average class size at MPMS was smaller, even though the overall population was much larger. I assume it's because MPMS is a much larger school. Based on the constant uproar about how crowded MPMS is (2013+), I would have expected their classes to be much larger than DDMS.

To answer the OP's post, I had one child go through elementary school (YR) with around 20-21 kids in her class from K-5. I had another go from K-3 with around 20-23 kids in her class (and actually only had 19 in her 3rd grade class last year). Just went to meet the teacher this morning. She has 29 kids in her 4th grade class this year. My oldest could have 100 kids in her class and it would be fine. Not so much with my younger one.

Edited to add that my 4th grader's class (Class of 2023) is extra large across the state because that was the year after they changed the cut off date. So it got a year and a couple of months of kids (the ones who would have been in the class of 2022, but missed the new cut off date).

Well, it really depends on the class. For band class, 30+ kids would be great, no? My 5th grader has 21 kids in her class this year. My middle schooler is in a charter with about 14 kids in her classes on average, 16 in her biggest class and 11 in her smallest.

I think it's safe to assume we're talking about core classes here. Particularly since the OP was asking about elementary school.

Yes, I was also referring to core classes. I am not going to get upset about 30 kids in band.

Classroom sizes in the older, Central Cary schools tend to be smaller. Our elementary school had very small classes, 16 in KG up to 22 in 5th.
