Finally here and loving it! Bought a 100 year old home on 3 acres between Durham and falls lake. Only 6 miles to downtown. Downtown Durham is so much better than twelve years ago! It's like Asheville without the mountains and more diversity. Love it.
P.s. does anyone have a recommendation for a contractor to do crawlspace mold cleaning and vapor barrier install?? Seems everyone I've called has enough work and can't get to me, and I'm paying cash!

Thank you so much for buying a historic home. There are so few in this area and so many of them should be given a chance at preservation. Glad you are here.
Reuse of something old is the ultimate way to be green! People don't realize their new fangled home will never pay back its carbon foot print when you take into account demolition of the old, production of new stuff, transportation, etc. New construction won't last long enough! No need to tear down a perfectly good old home!
just for clarification so I don't get a bunch of hate mail I have no problem with people building new homes. I'm just referencing our culture of disposal instead of reuse. For me that principle goes beyond just my house.
So four weeks and as many contractors later, looks like everyone in Durham is too busy for smaller jobs (<10k) so I'm bringing a contractor from Wilmington to do the work!
