I'll be babysitting my 7 and 4 year old grandsons next weekend - what would be a good thing to do with them on Saturday besides Marbles? Does anyone know of anything going on that may be of interest to them and me since I'll be the only one watching them? Thanks

I'm not sure what's going on, but my parents always took the grandkids (my kids and my sister's kids) to the Museum of Life & Science, in Durham. It has indoor and outdoor areas, so it always seems less claustrophobic to me.

I second this recommendation.

The Bug Fest is at the Science Museum in downtown Raleigh on the 20th.

They will love BugFest....and it's free! Even if bugs creep you out, it's still very interesting to see so many different bugs and they are in controlled spaces so a little less scary.

Pullen Park is good if they like the outdoors. Lots of equipment plus merry-go-round, paddle boats and a train to ride. Small charge for the carousel, boats, train.

Hill Ridge Farms has a hay ride and a few animals, etc. Google it to see more.

Marbles is worth almost a full day! You won't be able to get them to leave!

The flea market at the State Fairgrounds may hold their interest if they know they may get a small toy (there is a guy who has hot wheel cars for $1).

For that age, I totally agree that Bugfest and Pullen Park is a winner. And right now, they are forecasting sunshine and 74* for a high. If that holds, it will be an awesome day.

In between the two, you can take them for a fun lunch somewhere:
Mami Noras Chicken
Roast Grill (if you are patient and so are they) for hotdogs*
*DO NOT do this if your Grand kids need ketchup.
Natty Greens for family-friendly pub with TV's and good food
Char-grill or Snoopy's for picnic style burgers/dogs. Kids love it.
etc...

Have fun, that is a great age to take kids downtown.

Oh, and as a back-up, a tour of the old Capitol Building is pretty cool too. My daughter loved that at that age.

All good suggestions above. Also there is Durahm Centerfest on Saturday. An art festival filled with music and dance performances and a "kid zone" where they can make crafts for free. might be worth checking out.

CenterFest Arts Festival:
