It is a magnet.

There's nothing similar that I'm aware of.

You can't SSA in more than one but you can AIG in multiple subjects. Depends on school.

You can SSA in either math or LA. You can AIG in math and LA.

I think it's interesting that so many people I know, and so many on this board have (or are convinced they'll have) kids who SSA in a subject. Barring Lamishra's dd, who did this before it was common practice, I have to wonder how many parents prepped their kids for these tests. IMO, if you have to prep for the test (i.e., teach your kid the stuff they need to know) then it defeats the purpose.

I also wonder if the curriculum is too easy if 50% of the kids in a school qualify for AIG, and 10-20% are skipping an entire grade level in a subject.

I don't think it defeats the purpose if a child is taught what he/ she needs to know and as long as the child can sustain good performance at that level. The fundamental problem is that anything beyond a dumbed down curriculum is labeled AIG, SSA, etc. when the real problem is the dumbed down curriculum itself.

Some of these teachers and policymakers should be studying Carnage Middle. Plenty of kids there will finish up four high school math courses before starting high school.
Talk about an elitist program. Don't get me started on the unbelievable inequity in the courses offered at magnet schools vs. the rest of the school district.

Money. It costs to fund courses across all schools. Plus more capacity is needed for magnet students returning to base. And you still need a solution for underutilized schools.

Personally my brilliant, gifted, motivated, talented, 2 years ahead in math student does just fine in a public school.
Thales is a great school. We've been at the Apex location for several years and have had a terrific experience. Under their system, kids accelerate up grade levels in reading and math according to their abilities and they occasionally move kids up an entire grade.
