That being said we love our experiencesite at Wake Forest elementary, Ligon middle and Enloe High. I have many friends that speak very highly of the other schools are around Wake Forest and Wakefield. The only ones I ever heard consistent complaining about has been Knightdale are ones...and that was a couple of years back.
How are districts different from zones assigned to schools?

Do you mean the Wake County District as opposed to Chapel Hill- Carrboro? Or Durham County Schools?

In my county (in NC) we have the county school system and you live in a certain school's "district." They are not called "zones" here. I assumed this is what we were talking about- calling the same thing "district" vs "zone."

A zone can change. Just because I live in the Davis Drive zone today doesn't mean I will next year, or 10 years from now.

School districts are usually set by local law and governed independently of each other with separate boards of ed and budgets. Wake County Schools are one entity, sharing the same resources with one board of ed

Schools are managed at the district level.

Zones are different areas within the district.

You can move from one zone to another, and still have the same district management and philosophy.

And the district can shift the zone boundaries, and your kids may go to a different school, but still be in that district.

In CHCCS they call them "attendance zones" and also have different areas broken up into numbered "segments". You do have to be careful in CHCCS that you move into the CHCCS district since it is a city district and not county-wide. There are parts of Chapel Hill that are in Durham County and are assigned to the Durham Public School district and some areas with a Chapel Hill address in Chatham County that are assigned to the Chatham County Schools district. All of northern Orange Co is in the Orange County School district, of course.

From what I read in the N&O a few weeks ago, I think they might be doing away with "nodes" and going with smaller divisions called "parcels"?

Wake County dropping use of nodes in student assignment | Wake Ed Blog | NewsObserver.com

We are house hunting, and I'm wondering how this affects magnet acceptance priorities.

I realize many do, but I think the term is confusing for newcomers since "school zone" where they come from is probably not the same as what a node is here.
