Has anyone used Uber Raleigh taxi service. My husband is running in the City of Oaks Marathon. Since we are new here, I have no one to go spectate with. We only have one vehicle so I have been looking for a ride but been unsuccessful.
Thinking of using Uber to take me and my son down to the finish line to be there for hubby when he finishes tomorrow.
What are your thoughts about their service?

As a rider, they are cheap, nice and effective. If that's all that matters to you, the can't be beat.

As a company, they are the worst of worst of corporate greed. I drove for them, I know. They really use a lot of bad, dishonest tactics. If you don't believe me, or if you want to learn more about what it's like for a driver, go to the uberpeople forum, where drivers discuss their experiences.

If it were just about the ride, I'd use them every time, but knowing how that ride gets so cheap, I'm pretty sure I won't use them. (Then again, nobody is forcing the drivers to drive, so as long as they are at it, you might want to support them. Tough call...)

Thanks. It might be my only way to get down there with my son. Running out of options. Maybe I could give an extra good tip?

So are most of the Uber drivers here full time drivers or are they really people driving their normal cars? We thought about using them for a night out next weekend with another couple just due to the fact I can get someone when we want it. Could also try a taxi company but taxis here are so horrible in my experience.

I signed up for Uber and your first ride is free.

My brother works for Uber in this area. Yes, it's his own car, and it's currently his only job, but he is working 12-14 hour days. I would definitely use it.

Thank you! I have asked my neighbors on Nextdoor and on the marathons FB page to see if anyone could give us a ride but no luck. Looks like I will be using their services to get downtown.

OP, you don't live on a bus route?

We looked to see about the buses to the race but because of the road closures due to the race we weren't sure about getting to where we needed to be by the time he finishes. A free Uber ride might be our best bet for tomorrow.

Yes, I would use them too (I think). The reason I posted the background is because in previous posts, OP seems to be pretty conciencious and aware of such things (good!), so he/she should hear all opinions.

Like I said, the rider experience is usually pretty stellar, and the drivers are driving on their own accord (no pun intended).

Yes, I think most drivers are full time, and IMO, they are really getting used by Uber.

(but to the original question, it is probably your best, most reliable option)
