The other night I noticed water leaking from under my dishwasher. It must be leaking for a couple of days now, as it wrinkled all the wooden floor at the bottom and the damage started spreading around it. The dishwasher is little over 2 years old and came with my new house. I called an appliance guy and he suggested getting a new one as it would cost more to repair it.

I just want to get a second opinion and would like someone actually come and take a look at it. If it's a simple fix, I would like to get it done rather than buy a new one. Can anyone suggest a good appliance repair company/technician in triangle area who I can bank on?

Thanks,
Ramesh

You'd be looking at $100 for someone to come look at it. Even a "simple fix" like a $15 pump seal will cost another $100-150 to install it.

The repair man's recommendation is correct. Remove and replace. Appliances built at today's standards only have a 10-year life span. You can buy a new dishwasher for $250. 3 wires, 2 screws, & 1 water line later and a new dishwasher is installed.

You might want to contact whirlpool directly to see if they can assist you in fixing the problem over the phone. It's not new to them: Whirlpool Gold WDF730PAY[M] information from Consumer Reports

It may be the person that installed the dishwasher left something loose. Have you pulled it forward to look at the connections?

You might be able to isolate the source by figuring out when it leaks; drips while it's filling - water line, drips while it's draining - drain line. You may just have to pull off the panel at the bottom to see underneath the machine (a few screws).

good luck!

I called Whirlpool and all I got is a flat out no on any help to get this fixed since I'm out of 1 year warranty. It's disappointing and frustrating to see a big company like Whirlpool not owning up the problem.

I have used Reliable Appliance Repair twice and have found them to be reasonable. They only work on brands like GE. Whirlpool, Maytag, etc....no LG or Samsung. it is two guys, Steve and Chris. one focuses on southern triangle areas and the other on the more northern towns. Their number is 919-926-1506.

They will give you a quote before they do the work and tell you if it's worth it or not. They bill you as a "Job Charge"...they don't itemize parts, supplies, materials.

How do you know it's their problem, and not a problem with the installation? Leaks often happen where the water line or the drain line meet the dishwasher.

The water is coming out from the Pump/Motor area and I spoke with a local technician on phone after sending him some pics and the first thing he said is it's a motor assembly issue and that it's a common problem with this dishwasher model. He was the one who suggested I get a new one with the money it's going to cost me to have it repaired.
