I LOVED this one.

"Hi, my DH and I want to move our three, perfect, gifted children and their IEPs down to Raleigh. We must have the BEST neighborhood and grocery store and only the BEST schools will do. I am a medical assistant and my DH drives a delivery van. We NEED 3,500 square feet and a 20 minute commute to downtown. Where can we find this for $125,000 or less? I heard this place is cheaper than New York where I come from and everything is perfect!"

If I see another thread like that I am literally recommending Siler City, just for the hell of it.

You forgot - "And I'd like my property taxes to be less than $1,000 per year. Because those great schools should be paying teachers the minimum wage"

That almost made me just spit my coffee out of my mouth, if I hadn't just swallowed the last sip a second sooner.

The "Anywhere, If You Have Money" answer might be tongue and cheek but it's very, very true.
The only caveat here is is how much money means "money". In Raleigh, having "money" requires far less money than in NYC or SF, etc. This is probably why Raleigh gets the nod so often as a great place to raise kids.

Silly BCR--you forgot "must be within an hour to both the beach and to the mountains, which I know is true of everywhere down there"

Your child has everything he or she needs—namely, the vast opportunities afforded by money—right in the town you currently live in, or in any other place, really, so long as you fall into the appropriate income bracket. Enjoy!

Which is pretty much the allure of this place, in a nutshell.

I don't know. There are some places I wouldn't leave regardless of how much income I made. We learned that lesson when dh took a well paying job in Houston. No zoning, no culture, everything is hideously ugly if you go outside your well-manicured neighborhood. The crime and heat are terrible. And it's the only place I've lived where it was normal to see a rat crossing the street. :-/ Our house was 3x the size of our house here and we could afford a much nicer neighborhood. No thanks. I'll take beautiful NC (especially with this amazing fall weather we're having right now) over a bigger house and more disposable income any day.

I think it sorta meant that with ENOUGH money, anywhere is okay. I bet that if you were the most loaded individual in Houston, and you had acreage, a mansion, and a personal jet, you could live there and raise kids quite well.

LOL.

That was the point.
