I have a rising kindergartner and would like to get some feedback on our base school, Wakefield Elementary. I've heard there's been significant staff and teacher turnover.I know the school is changing to traditional next year and am fine with that. Thank you!

I don't actually have a child that goes there, but my wife did a lot of research and it appears the school is sub-par. We opted to put our daughter elsewhere despite living within walking distance to Wakefield Elementary and having moved here for that reason originally.

I hate it went downhill.

It was highly regarded when it was new. My middle kid was there from 2002-2006. He started in kindy.

My eldest did middle and half of HS at Wakefield MS and HS.

Agreed. We moved here in '99 and at the time it was not even open IIRC. When it opened, it was tops. Now it's gone downhill and we are super bummed, being so close. We had envisioned walking her to school, etc. Now we have to get in the dang car and drive her.

That stinks.

I guess it happened around the time it went YR?

I remember the parents in the neighborhood across the street circa 2003-2004 being furious about possibly having their kids bused away from WES.

Not really sure. We didn't pay much attention during the childless years, dumb and ignorant and assuming things would be peachy when it came time. We had some issues and couldn't get pregnant for a while, then gave up, then finally it worked. By the time she was school age, and even several years prior, we knew WE was not the place she'd end up. Sad.

Maybe you can move her back in middle school?

I guess it's something we can investigate, but she may be too far ahead by then. She's already advanced in kindergarten. I can't imagine what will happen by MS.

My eldest was over 2 years ahead in kindergarten. It starts to even out a little as they get older, but she will likely always be a bit ahead, if my experience with my own kid (and as a former teacher) is any indication.

Good to know. It would be nice to have her right here, although we love her current school and it's very reasonably priced. I would hate to rip her from her friends and "system" if it's working for her, only for selfish reasons.
