Hello everyone!
Question… We are new to North Carolina and every day have been seeing dead deer on the road side. It appears like they have not been hit by any car or shot. What is the most likely cause of so many deer dead? It's so sad to see.

If they are on the side of the road, they are most likely hit by a car.

on some rural roads they could have been shot.

Seems a common occurrence in the area.

Yep, they've been hit by cars. Where did you move from? North Carolina has a high deer population.

It's rutting season for whitetail deer. They're moving around this time of year, and unfortunately they end up on the roads and highways.

I came through the Archer's Lodge area the other day and saw a large buck beside the road. Somebody had sawed a square area of skull around the antlers and removed them...use your imagination folks. Good thing I didn't see this chump in the act

My husband almost hit one a few weeks ago on his way to work. He said it came out of nowhere.

I'm always afraid when driving in the evening that one of them will dash out in front of me.

About 2 months ago I was riding my bicycle (west Cary) and a deer started to dart out and then changed direction and went back towards the woods. My heart was pounding, and I wasn't sure I could stop in time.
