Hi,
We'll be living in Fuquay-Varina and need a really good pediatrician. Our little one has a lot of medical issues and sees many specialists and we need someone who can coordinate and stay on top of his specialized care.
I don't mind traveling to the doc, but hope it isn't terribly far as we have to be at the doctor a lot. It appears most of his specialists will be out of UNC Children's, if that helps with your recommendations.
Thanks for your help!
You could ask some of his specialists what pediatrician they'd recommend.
We love our pediatrician but it's a good drive to Fuquay and I'm sure there are some excellent pediatricians closer to your home.
Good luck
I agree with this approach and I would look for a pediatrician with privileges at UNC this way they can access your child's records/reports from the specialists. Not all specialists are good about forwarding reports to the primary. Asking the specialists to recommend a pediatrician is a good suggestion.
Fuquay Pediatrics is affiliated with Apex and Cary Pediatrics. A large practice, but we are comfortable with every provider we have seen. Responsive and efficient. Very glad to have connected with them.
Thank you Funky Chicken.
We don't yet have the specialists up there, but our current specialists have recommended specialists at UNC Children's. We need the primary care doc to get the referrals to the specialists, and we need the pediatrician as soon as possible because he tends to need appointments frequently.
The cart isn't before the horse in my request.
We go to Tots N Teens Pediatrics in Cary. It's a private practice, so you'd get more personal attention. We went to Cary Pediatrics first and it felt like a conveyor. Waited forever in a small sterile room. The doctor barely made any eye contact, too busy filling in the paperwork.
There is, of course, a disadvantage with small practice since there is just one doctor. But if the quality of care is your foremost concern and you'd be OK with possibly occasionally using another clinic for an urgent issue (happened only once to us - doctor was at a conference), I'd recommend this practice wholeheartedly. My 5 year old actually likes going there, imagine that!
UNC Pediatrics at Highgate is a great practice and would be closer to you than going all the way to Chapel Hill (though still a 30+ minute drive). All the physicians there trained at UNC too, so would know the specialists.
We use Dr Dupuy at Fuquay Varina Pediatrics. We also have a lot of medical issues, and he has been very good staying on top of things and working with other doctors.
I will second the recommendation for UNC Pediatrics at Highgate. I think they would be well worth your drive. There are 4 pediatricians in the practice. We see Dr. Zimmerman and we have always been 100% happy. They have done a great job coordinating with my youngest son's pediatric orthopedist. They also have extensive hours, including Saturday hours.
Thank you for the suggestions, everyone! Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I just got the email notification today that you all had given me some practices to check out.
I really appreciate it!
