I currently live in Hawaii and recently had a car fire that I'm trying to recover from. The last thing I need before I can consider my car complete is the front bumper. Unfortunately there is no way to get one here and none of the companies that sell them on the mainland ship to Hawaii. So what I did was I went ahead and bought one and had it shipped to a friends house in Raleigh. Now he is trying to find a place that will ship it for a reasonable cost (under a grand). Does anyone have any recommendations? USPS laughed in his face when he brought it in. Other places like ups and fedex are asking for over 1000 bux (the box is like 70 inches by 30 by 30 but only weighs like 30 pounds) Anyone have any ideas?

I deal with refurbished HP printers and copiers. We sell and ship them to all states. THERE IS NO OPTION. When ever there is a deal over the web from Hawaii shipping is a deal breaker.

We have tried everything. Everything that hits the Pacific just after California becomes Air freight.

I might be missing something here (I've only used them domestically) but Delta DASH and Delta Standard shipping appear reasonable. They have an office at RDU in Raleigh.

This won't help the OP, but I learned a trick for shipping bulky items domestically when I crashed my track car. I bought a used door from a junkyard in Georgia and they shipped it via Greyhound bus. I had to go to the bus terminal to pick it up but it was much cheaper than UPS/Fedex. The guys at the bus counter thought it was hilarious ...

If an airline would accept it as checked luggage, my round-trip airfare from RDU is probably less than a grand...

Shipping as cargo with Delta seems like a good option. I was going to suggest buying your friend a ticket or cheap vacation package and have him/her take it as baggage but this is way cheaper and easier. Might want to see if other airlines offer the service as well. United and American fly to Hawaii as well.

I know United offers a cargo option as I've had to use it before. Might also try giving the Raleigh CEVA Logistics office a call. They do mostly commercial freight but have been known to accept stuff like this if they already have something heading that way anyway.

I have used Greyhound as a package service for years. It is great to get a computer part to someone within hours instead of Fedex overnight. I have waited in Charlotte for 3 hours for a part to come from Raleigh. Quick and easy. But, when it hits the ocean all things change...

Befriend a FedEx or UPS employee and take advantage of their shipping discount.

I think he should try the post office again. A friend sent her husband a bike in Iraq. It was a pretty big package. Maybe he happened to get the class clown 1st time around. Or have him call and talk with a manager.

I bought a fishing reel from E Bay. Seller was in Hawaii and shipped it from there USPS. I think it was about $10. Of course, it was a much smaller package. there must be some way to do this without bankrupting yourself.
