We should start a local city-data group for job help. I'd love to find something new for my regular day job too. Must be a lot of people on CD that hire or have other types of "insider info" on jobs.
I second that RDU Biker. Many of us would love to help each other to get jobs or those who have job leads. We moved here a few months ago, and know it is a difficult process.

I've thought about this before. People come here pretty often talking about the local job market.

So in my real life, I'm a director at a non-profit here in Raleigh. Throughout grad school I worked in retail, in foodservice, and ran a pretty successful lifestyle/fitness blog, so I'm pretty skilled with social media.
Retail and foodservice are the typical "second-income part-time jobs", so with experience in both of those areas, you have a leg up. Unfortunately, this is the time of year that retail places SHED their employees after the Holidays, so I don't think right now that you'd find any retail openings. Just check with restaurants and bars for night/evening shifts and make sure to tell them you have experience in the field. Look beyond the "trendy" places, which are probably inundated with applicants, and find a boring older restaurant, for more likely openings.
It's interesting you mention Uber. I was talking to a family member over the new years and they mentioned that they do Uber (and some other taxi app) and bring in around $400-$600 per week busing people around as a side gig.

I actually was just thinking about this last night - I may apply to Uber to see if I create some supplemental income! Very interesting prospect.
