FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan. 7, 2008
If you need a driver's license, you should call the DMV first. See article emailed to me today by Town of Cary.

Contact: Marge Howell, (919) 861-3019

Quote:
RALEIGH — Due to the slowdown of a national computer system this morning, the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles has halted issuance of all driver licenses and identification cards statewide.

The national system became overloaded this morning, which significantly affected the ability of driver license offices to issue licenses. Halting North Carolina issuances is intended to help the national system recover. Officials advise those seeking North Carolina driver licenses or identification cards to call before going to the driver license office.

DMV will issue another advisory as soon as there is an update in the situation.

Were you trying to renew yours, Kelly, online? I had no idea the DMV would do that if your needed a replacement until I was at the DMV office this week, getting an ID for an exchange student. How nice to think I don't have to drive over there -- same photo, though. Ugh.
