I am just curious if your children's schools' doors are locked? And also if it is private or public? Our principal does NOT believe that a locked front door will deter someone from entering. (There is not a security guard either). We have a meeting soon and I am just trying to gather information about the schools in the triangle. Thanks for any information you might have on safety in schools.

our school had all doors but the front door is unlocked. I don't believe they should all be locked if it's a public school.

I believe there is one open door at the front doors of our elementary school. All the other doors are locked. Unfortunately your principal is correct, the glass doors around here are no deterrent at all. Lanza shot out the front doors at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Middle and high school are worse, with kids coming and going around the campus all the doors are unlocked.

Why lock the front door then?

My son's elementary has all doors locked except for the front door but a guard at the front door. We recently toured the middle school close by that he will go to and noticed all the doors were unlocked. I like that the doors are locked except for the front.

All doors locked in both our elementary school and middle school here in Chapel Hill. All doors were locked in our elementary school in Northern Virginia.

Locks are for honest people, they don't stop those with ill intent.

Well that's a bit of interesting flame-bait.

Locked doors are part of an overall security plan. No one expects that one single element alone is the full answer to every security situation.
