The magnets seem like such a great idea. I'm new to the area. Does anyone have experience with the Museums Magnet? Opinion on learning style, etc? My son is a good hands-on learner (visually oriented)... but he is not an A student. More like a C student in a traditional school setting. It's hard for him to learn when materials aren't more hands on. He loses focus. Do you think this could be a good one for him? Or is it very competitive?

Where is this school ocated? I know of Moore square museum magnet in Downtown Raleigh. We have a friend who goes there and I think they like it OK, but have had some other non-academic issues there. My daughter goes to Exploris charter middle school. It's a hands on learning environment. They are VERY hands on, proactive and non traditional. Very non traditional. Actually my child who has been in traditional school her whole life has had a bit of a hard time de-programming from it, but it's been worth every moment. It's very high performing on state wide tests, but they don't teach to the tests EVER. The students are taught to be very responsible for their own work and actions. Group work is a BIG deal there, and they are strongly encouraged to be proactive in their communities. My DD spent all night tonight writing persuasive essays to major media outlets about global warming!
It's lottery based entry though!
