Planning on moving down to nc and can't decide on clayton area of nc in johnston county or outside of knightsdale in wake county. Already have jobs lined up (transferring to raleigh office) but was nervous when I saw the schools in nc were not rated nearly as good as where we are now (central pa). The bad part is there are individual districts here and each are very expensive and constantly increasing in property taxes with no countywide system as I understand nc has. Is what I'm reading correct? Is this enough to consider staying? (Can't handle the cold/snow/drearyness here) don't want to stay but if it means my kids get a bad education I'll stay. Thanks for the info

Clayton and Knightdale are not where the top rated schools are (although I understand there are some decent ones in Johnston). Is there a reason you need to be in one of those areas?

Wake county has some of the top rated schools. They are very highly rated, but keep in mind, there are choices that you will need to look in to...such as a year-round calendar option vs the more common traditional calendar option. I'm enjoying the year round option myself. So if you were to move, you'll need to find out what school you want and THEN look for homes that are currently assigned to that school. That does have a tendency to change, but whatever school you are assigned to is usually very good! If you are not assigned to the school of your choice, you still have options on where you can put your kids with magnet schools, private, and you can try for the lottery for a charter school.
