I finally got around to getting a fire pit for my backyard. I don't need a ton of firewood, but I would like to get a supply that would last me longer than those tiny bundles you sometimes see for sale outside grocery stores. I've seen random stack of wood for sale, but was curious where others go to get their firewood. I'm in North Raleigh (near Bedford) so most interested in options near that location. Thanks!

You can stumble in to fresh firewood pretty easily, with guys running wood lots at home. Over on Ray Road, near Howard Rd. there used to be a couple.
And, since you aren't using a fireplace, you can use softwood. You can get a LOT of framing lumber scraps, 2x4's, etc, from scrap bins outside new construction houses. It burns great, and will help start green firewood.
There used to be a man on Mount Vernon Church Rd that was great.
The section of Mount Vernon between Six Forks Rd and Norwood, near the middle of that segment.
(near the junk yard )
he has a sign out with a phone number..
This was a few years ago so if he isn't there anymore I apologize, I don't live on that road anymore.

Just make sure NOT to burn and breathe pressure treated wood.
There's a guy who always sells wood in the parking lot at Quail Ridge shopping center...been there many years treating people right. There's also a wood lot at the northwest corner of Atlantic Ave. and E.Whitaker Mill. Some of my neighbors like buying from there.
We got a cord of wood from NC Green Heat this fall and it burns beautifully. They'll deliver within a 10 mile radius and they have a variety of wood for indoor, fire pits, smokers, everything.
There's also a guy on Old Creedmoor (just south of 98 near the Parker Falls neighborhood) who sells firewood from his yard. He always seems to be out, but there's a number on a sign in his yard if he isn't there. I haven't bought from him but several people in my neighborhood recommended him.
