Someone told the Long Island sea gulls that everyone is leaving Long Island to move to NC so they decided to check it out!!!
Falls Lake is loaded with gulls in the winter. Once the weather warms they disappear due to the amount of boat traffic. I think they return to the area landfills during the warm weather months.
When a low pressure system sits off the coast it will rotate winds inland taking gulls with it. The birds will eventually find their way back to the beach.
go to bond park hundreds of them just chilling on a sheet of ice on the lake that didn't melt yet. and yeah, seagulls are scavengers and they pretty much go any where they want.
