Hmmmm, well it sounds more like an assisted living center than a "retirement center".
Quote:
The plan states the Chapel Hill Retirement Residence project largely would serve seniors in their late 70s and 80s with studio, one- and two-bedroom units; the suites would not have kitchens.
It would be designed for those who are still able to get around but may need some support, the plans state, and offer activities and services, including housekeeping, daily meals and 24-7 transportation and staffing.

I'm not really a fan of stand alone independent senior living or assisted living centers, having had to help several elderly relatives navigate the various systems. I much prefer the CCRC model, where there are stepped levels of care in case you need them, and there are already several great CCRCs in town.
I suppose this would be an okay thing to put there, though — better than retail. It's unlikely to clog up Estes too much more if the older folks won't be driving, so in that way it would be good. Might make Estes a little busier during shift change for workers, but shouldn't otherwise greatly impact traffic the way retail or an apartment complex would.
Hope the older folks won't have to be crossing the street a lot. I wasn't clear on what is planned for the smaller parcel across the road.
