Our school was not delayed nor closed, so I took my daughter. Roads were slippery but driveable. Not so much now. Just got a text that they're closing at 930. Ugh. Time to formulate a plan.
I'm looking out my window at work. It looks to me like the roads are already starting to get marginally better. I think if people stay put for an hour or two, the roads will be fine. I've got early afternoon meetings, so that decision is already made for me.
If you look at the radar, there had been a hole coming (ie dry area) but that's closing up fast and it appears that perhaps there's still more coming. It's hard to tell.
I laughed about Wake County's decision for the two-hour delay but was super relieved that they bagged the whole day by the time I slid into my office in RTP at 7:30 AM. I personally witnessed three accidents in just under two minutes on the stretch of road where 540 and 40 merge, right before Page Road. That was before I skidded twenty yards trying to stop on 54 in order to turn into the parking lot.
We former Northerners laugh about how this plays out, but as a parent, I'm glad our children are home and safe while this drama unfolds.
Well if it's snow, at least that's easier to remove with a shovel.
I kid you not - I spent 3 hours chipping ice off my driveway with a metal shovel only to clear a path for our smallest car to get out of the garage. Injured my sciatic nerve in the process and now am on steroids to help with the pain.
DH slipped and fell on his back twice while attempting to chip ice off our walkway and sidewalk. He's been doing better with ibuprofen and heating pad, but may have to skip hockey this week
And he grew up in MA. It was awful here. We still have some ice in places.
