We put an offer on a house in a neighborhood with no pool. Can you recommend local swim clubs (not country clubs) in the area? My kids are avid swimmers and would want to join a swim team. Thank you!
The YMCA in North Raleigh (between Strickland Rd and 540) might host some teams and has both indoor and they both indoor and outdoor pools (Summer only) for all season swimming. I'm not sure if that is far enough north for you or not.
Some neighborhoods open up their pools to non-residents for a fee. Our neighborhood doesn't have a pool so we join the nearby Black Horse Run pool (off Old Creedmoor) every summer. They have a swim team. If BHR isn't near you, you might check with the nearest neighborhoods to see if they have a pool you could join that would meet your needs.
The Triangle is very active for competitive swimming.
The Tarheel Swimming Association is a summer league with about 80 teams or so. If you click on the Club Map link on the home page you'll see all the neighborhoods near you that have teams; note that the neighborhood teams are often open only to residents. The Lifetime Fitness in Cary is a member team, and it looks like Lifetime Raleigh has joined the league as an exhibition team. There is also a Durham league and a Chapel Hill league, and there's a much smaller Raleigh country club league too.
If your kids are seeking a more rigorous year-round team, there are several in the area: Raleigh Swimming Association, Marlins of Raleigh, TAC Titans, New Wave, and YOTA (YMCA).
My kids swim for both a TSA team and a year-round team, and we've had wonderful experiences with both.
