I know there have been a lot of restaurant questions on here and I have searched some of the one's that may pertain so sorry for another restaurant topic.
So here is my issue.....
Very recently I had surgery for skin cancer and am very self conscious right now about my appearance. It was a lot more extensive than I had thought it would be and in a very prominent place on my face where the surgeon said reconstruction is more difficult :-( I would not be going out at all, especially since eating is very difficult right now, but my husband and daughter really want to celebrate my birthday and think it might be good for me to get out of the house which in a lot of ways I agree with. Please know they are not forcing me. They will do whatever I feel comfortable with.
So with that in mind, I would love to find a place somewhere between North Raleigh and Cary that has a more private intimate setting with lower lights and not super crowded but still decent food. It doesn't have to be award winning :-) My adult daughter will be coming too so not a place where just couples would go for an intimate dinner. As for cuisine I probably only feel like eating American, Italian or French right now. And last but not least, I don't really feel like getting all dressed up so I will probably be in a more business casual attire.
Well, most Italian restaurants are somewhat darkly-lit anyway.
Wherever you decide, call them and explain the situation and they you'd like an out-of-the-way table (that's not a crappy one) and why. Going on a weeknight when it's less crowded is obviously going to be easier than on a Saturday night, also.
I love Casa Carbone which is a Raleigh "institution" for decades, but if there is a wait, you're right out there by the front door. They do have rooms in the back and would give you the most discreet table if you asked, I'm sure.

I second Casa Carbone. Great owners. Call them and they will take care of you. Also very good Italian cuisine.

Casa Carbone is one of my favorites!
I'd call and explain the situation. They are very nice folks!
+1 for Melting pot. Very intimate, dark, only people in the place feeling. AND its kinda fun!
