I have heard rumors that there are plans to build a whitewater center at Falls Dam. I don't know how serious they were, but I'm pretty sure that there have at least been "real" discussions about it.
I thought you could already kayak at the dam. I drive over the bridge there almost everyday, but I can't see over the new bridge like you could on the old one. Are people still kayaking there?

I don't know but the whitewater center in Charlotte also has ziplines, scary rope ladders, various levels of group and solo rafting (manmade though), restaurants, concerts, hiking trails. It's great.
Want some more Raleigh trolling? Just go over to the North Carolina Forum and read all about how much better Charlotte is than Raleigh. A lot of Charlotte posters go there to do very similar "work".

The falls dam, when it's releasing a lot of water, can create a single good whitewater feature. It's not necessarily a situation where you would ride down the river for a while. You basically paddle into the "wave", do some tricks, then drop out and head back to shore. Rinse and repeat.
The USNWWC is two dedicate man-made rivers with man-made white water features. They obviously do rafting tours or you can kayak it on your own if you're so inclined. They also have a ton of other outdoor activities, mountain biking, ropes courses, hiking, ziplining. They also back up to the Catawba river and offer flat water SUP and kayaking.
So you CAN kayak at falls dam, but it's not even remotely comparable to USNNWC.
They interviewed Mark Washburn on News14. Looks like he has a lot of issues w/ Charlotte too. He also provide great perspective as to why he believes Raleigh never became the "premier" city of the Carolina's that Charlotte has become.
