Ok, this is a long shot but....is there a bakery in the Triangle that makes zeppolies and sfinge pastries for St. Joseph's Day? That is probably the only thing I miss. Most of you probably don't even know what the heck I'm talking about but the northeast transplants will
You may want to call Bagels Plus down here in Fuquay/ Holly Springs on 55 to double check. There are authentic Italian pastries there; former SI residents I believe...and very Italian.
If you don't find them, they look easy to make, check out AllRecipes.com Its basically a batter with ricotta added. One of them looks like a funnel cake
So, St Joseph has a holiday? I honestly didn't now.
Nope. No pastry at Bagels Plus! And yes, the Feast of St. Joseph is celebrated on March 19th. Tradition is to treat all the namesakes with a pastry. In my family we have quite a few Joes!!

All Catholic Saints have a holiday...some of them have local or cultural celebrations attached to them in an area where that saint is a patron saint of the parish or dioceses.

LOL! Yeah, I was serious, for example, in the town I am from St. John gets the big community celebration.....but where my MIL was from, made a huge deal of St. Lucia at Christmas time (heavy Swedish influence) - but you don't see those saints celebrated in all areas.
Interesting! Until recent years the Catholic community was quite small here, so learning about the saints' holidays is new to many of us. I'm English, so if we had celebrated a saint it would likely be St. Boozus (sorry, St George)
Hope you find the cakes you were looking for! I might have to try that recipe, they look interesting!
