Wakefield H.S / Wake Forest Rolesville H.S., working with H.S. youths in the area of sports in both schools I find the kids to be pretty much the same from each. Wakefield H.S. is a newer facility but no fancier than WF/R H.S. I see kids drive nice cars in both schools not sure that defines the character of the kids that attend the schools. Both bus their kids in from all over the Northern parts of Raleigh and Wake Forest. In sports they are both very competitive against each other and that is what IMO rivalry schools do, compete. But that competition is civil and fair IMO. I can't always say that among the parents of each.
I have yet to find a H.S. that did not have elitist kids/parents, (snobs to some), I don't think Wakefield has anymore or less than WF/R. Both schools follow the Wake County and NC State educational requirements and try their best to make their students achieve their academic potential. But as with all schools not every student is capable of that achievement due to physical, mental, or don't really care abilities. I would stack up Wakefield and WF/R H.S.'s against anyones in the area.

Nice post. Especially the last paragraph. I think people sometimes forget the schools must follow both Wake County and NC educational requirements. They aren't winging the lectures... every single thing is by the book (literally).
Sometimes I think people get hung up on the location, the population, the socio-economics of the school... or just the "feeling" we get when we hear it..
When it comes to the courses and stage guidelines curriculum - they are all essentially the SAME.... elementary, middle and high school. Not counting the magnet programs or electives. So, when people ask if a school is "good" - do they mean the kids? the teachers? the environment?
I do think WHS campus is alot more appealing than WFRHS. Its a shame but we do tend to judge on first impressions. People come from out of the area and see the old facility and think ew. I have a theory being zoned to WHS helps sell homes.. but thats for another thread....
I don't know if this is the case at the high schools in wake forest, but I know that at the high schools in chapel hill if a student has exhausted their academic options (let's say they had AP english in 11th grade), then they can take classes at UNC Chapel hill for 12th grade.
So, if that is something that your children may need, it might be something to ask the various schools about.
My neighborhood kids attend Wakefield Middle and High and I've heard only GOOD THINGS from both the parents and the kids. Our babysitter goes to Wakefield - is a sophmore and LOVES the school. I believe some of the negatives that get highlighted about these schools are due to the fact that this school is in an affluent area. We attended Wakefield elementary last year --- my son got an excellent education and I couldn't say enough about good things about the staff and our experience there.
Wakefield H.S. has the highest percentage of students involved in gang activity in all of Wake county.
Great question --- I want to know that too!!
