My husband and I live in Hillsborough and have been quite happy as residents for nearly 8 years. We have two sons, preschool-age, who will be starting elementary school in Sept 2009. We are in the New Hope Elementary district and are trying to learn more about the different elementary schools and whether or not we should think about moving (within Hillsborough). We'd like more house-space but our current situation is also quite liveable. Thus, knowing if we should stay in this district or migrate to another, will help aid in our ambivalance about whether or not to upgrade to more space.

Any experiences (positive and or negative) about New Hope? Cameron Park? Hillsborough Elementary (which I know is by choice)? PLEASE SHARE!

-a Mom unsure about how to evaluate potential elem schools

Cameron Park, despite it's age, is a great choice. Very strong parent involvement and support along with caring staff and administration. Pathways I think is also good, I just haven't heard much recently. Grady Brown recently changed administration, but we were happy with it when our son went there. Many caring teachers! New Hope has a fabulous science teacher (the most inspirational I've ever heard at the elementary level--really cool guy. Everyone in the district talks about him!). HES and Cameron Park I think though have the most involved parents of any of the schools, but HES is going through alot right now (with the possible merger with CES). Otherwise, HES is a great choice too. Really can't go wrong at the elementary level anywhere in the at this point...unless you have a special needs child. Then I'd advocate for Grady Brown.

My kids go to Cameron Park and I can't say enough good things about this school.....tremendous staff and teachers, the principal is terrific.

Great school counselor who is very involved with all the grades and is a terrific motivational speaker.

The best PE teacher I have ever met, really gets the kids interested in fitness, the school has an outdoor track and all the students run laps every day to earn t-shirts at the end of the year for 500 or 1000 laps....

The school even has clubs in the spring for all types of interests, a running club, card trading club, cooking, etc.

Great, great school

The school counselor--is that by any chance Mr. Carr? If so, you are so right--can't get ANY better!

New Hope is a truly great school. Come tour it and check it out. My son goes there and we've been extremely pleased (and I'm picky!). The teachers are the best, most engaged, creative teachers I have ever seen. The facility is beautiful, and the entire staff is very caring and wonderful. The library is excellent, bigger than many town libraries, with an extremely committed library staff.
