I really like Taste (Vietnamese) in Morrisville. YUM!

For a good breakfast, Elmo's in Durham or Nofo in Raleigh both hit the spot for me.

I'm going to have to find some of these places you've all listed.

Definitely try Gonza Tacos Y Tequila, one of the best in North Raleigh.

Yelp was where I looked when I moved here. Just picked a bunch of the most reviewed restaurants with 4+ stars and went from there to see what I liked and didn't like.

I travel a lot, and this strategy works VERY well when I'm in a new city.

Personally, I like Urbanspoon over Yelp. Shoot for restaurants with over 80% "like" rate. Below 70% usually tells you something. Between 70 - 80% is typically still good, but perhaps a tad inconsistent.

Using both Urbanspoon and Yelp is a good thing to do.

Big Ed's in downtown for breakfast. Very good food, efficient and friendly servers and fair price. If you have never had breakfast at Big Ed's you need to take family and/or friends and enjoy the experience.
