I just spotted a 4' diameter Bald Eagles Nest just south of the 3/4 mile mark from the Falls Dam along the Neuse River Trail in Wake County North Carolina. This area is North of Raleigh. The nest contains a mature pair and is located on top of a very large power pole on the opposite side of the river. Proceed down river past the 3/4 mile marker from trail parking lot and when you get to the power lines look left. If you proceed up the hill on your right you should be able to get a very good view of the birds with binoculars level with the nest. You can't miss it.
If anything it may be an osprey nest ..... their population on Falls Lake has steadily increased over the years. Ospreys can look similar to eagles if you haven't been around either very much. That said once you see a eagle in person you will not get them mixed up with ospreys in the future. I love ospreys !! and a little know fact is that they are much better fishermen than eagles.
There is also a Bald Eagle hanging out over at the lake that runs next to Aviation Parkway by the airport. Definitely not an Osprey. Truly awesome to see.
Not an April Fool's joke, right? That's a pretty populated area. Have you actually seen an eagle on the nest or in the vicinity?

They aren't really all that scarce to see anymore. I haven't paid close attention around here but I used to see them all the time around Minneapolis, and this area is less built up than Minneapolis. There was even one that resided right near Lake Harriet (think somewhere like Fred Fletcher Park or Lake Wheeler.)
If it's on a pole it's probably not an eagle. I checked it out and it's an osprey family of 4. Very nice but not an eagle.
